According to the World Health Organization (WHO), World Food Safety Day is celebrated globally on 7 June every year. World Food Safety Day aims to transform food systems to provide better health and prevent foodborne diseases. The day also provides an opportunity to strengthen efforts to ensure that the food we eat is safe and reduces the burden of foodborne diseases globally.

The World Health Organization which is a part of the United Nations Organization has announced the theme of Food Safety Day (7 March 2022) for this year. This year’s theme is ‘Safe Food, Better Health’. WHO also launched a campaign to inspire global participation.

The main objective behind celebrating this day is that food items reach the public in a safe form so that food-borne diseases can be prevented.

World Food Safety Day 2022: History


The United Nations General Assembly established World Food Safety Day in 2018 to raise awareness of this important food security issue. World Food Safety Day was jointly initiated by the WHO and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in collaboration with member states and other stakeholders.
